ZiDeNume

ZiDeNume app icon

Context

In Romania a zi de nume is not a birthday. It is the saint’s day that belongs to a given name, and it is easy to miss. Calendar apps track birthdays. Contacts rarely carry the Orthodox and Catholic name-day calendar. Friends notice when you forget.

What we built

A local-first mobile app for Android and iOS. Import contacts, match them to name days, turn on notifications, and send an SMS on the day — from the phone’s messaging app. Nothing in that flow leaves the device as a sync to our servers. We do not run a backend for this product.

Outcome

Upcoming dates sit in one list, grouped by month, with a countdown. Notifications can be toggled per person. Contacts that have no match can be associated by hand. The app is built to ship on Google Play and the App Store as a small, private utility.

Privacy as the product

Contacts, matches and reminder settings live on the phone. There is no account, no cloud backup of the list through us, and no analytics product sitting on the address book. The only network path besides the user’s own SMS is advertising: the free app is supported by Google AdMob.

App walkthrough

Four tabs. Upcoming name days, with people nested under each given name. A searchable contact list, including unmatched people you can link to a day. Notifications, month by month, with a switch per person. Settings. Light and dark. Import once, then the calendar repeats every year.
