TouristDr
Swedish healthcare is excellent — if you are Swedish. For everyone else it is a maze of personnummer and BankID. TouristDr is the product we built to take that barrier out of the way.
Context
Visitors who fall ill in Sweden hit the same wall: every public app wants BankID, 1177 queues run long, and a vårdcentral often cannot register a patient without a personnummer. The system was not designed for tourists, expats, Erasmus students or business travellers.
What we built
A digital care product from scratch for people without Swedish digital identity. Booking with a passport or national ID, payment with an international card, video consultation with a licensed Swedish physician — in English, with no app download.
Outcome
TouristDr is live at touristdr.se. Same-day appointments, insurance claim documents included, and a path into in-person care in Gothenburg when a video consult is not enough.
The product
TouristDr is a telemedicine service for international patients already in Sweden. Consultations are with licensed Swedish physicians, cost 2,500 SEK, and do not require a Swedish personal number, BankID, or registration in the public system.
Online care is for non-emergency concerns that can be assessed safely at a distance: cold and flu, sore throat, urinary and stomach symptoms, skin issues, allergies, medication questions, prescription renewal where appropriate, and follow-up. If the physician decides a physical examination is needed, the patient is guided to a clinic appointment rather than being left to restart the process.
Who it is for
Tourists, expats and international workers, Erasmus students, and business travellers — anyone who needs medical advice in English and does not have Swedish digital identification.
